Infertility is a disease that causes some of the deepest pain a woman can experience. I would even go far enough to say that there are very few things worse, than to have the desire to be a mother, and unable to make that happen. Here is some advice to those of you who are only trying to help, from someone who struggles every day with the inability to conceive:

1. Please do not tell us to “JUST ADOPT”. There is nothing wrong with adoption, I plan to do so, but that is a personal choice.
2. We all know that having sex is the way to have a baby, do not tell us to “Just have sex”. We are, probably more than you.
3. If you personally have not experienced infertility, don’t tell us you understand because your friends, cousins, mom’s, coworker did. You don’t really understand the pain, unless you personally have experienced it.
4. It hurts every time someone asks, trying to be nice when we are going to have a baby. If we could, we would.
5. Don’t complain to us about your unwanted pregnancy, the pain that you are in, or the stretch marks on your body. Some of us would do anything to have those stretch marks.
6. Please don’t say to relax and it’ll happen. I think we have all tried that too.
7. Don’t be offended if you come running to us to tell us about your pregnancy and telling us you weren’t even trying and we are not overjoyed for you in the moment. It hurts to see everyone around you having a baby. We are happy for you in most cases, but need time to deal with the fact that once again we are not expecting.
